authorH1142 - Increase Taxes in Wake County

My opponent, who does not see any problem that does not need state tax money to fix, was the prime mover behind the Land Transfer tax in North Carolina. She got the enabling legislation into the 2007 budget through a sleight of hand maneuver. But, since she was not sure that her backroom dealings with the budget would come to fruition, she introduced this bill to make sure that Wake County got stuck with a transfer tax, even if no other county in the state did.

I guess there is some truth to the saying that she never met a tax she didn’t like to raise, but did she have to go and invent a new one?

Luckily, this bill did not pass, and the state-wide transfer tax has failed in every county that has voted on it. In this economy, who can afford it?
