Tax Policy is Important
One of the ways that state government affects and touches us all is through the power of taxation. Our taxes in North Carolina are
too high. Our current legislature came into the last session with an over billion dollar surplus, spent
every dime of it, and ,
not satisfied with that accomplishment, went on to further raise taxes. Our taxes place
way too much of a burden upon the backs of hard working North Carolina citizens, often for
projects of dubious value..
That is why I have signed Americans for Tax Reform's
State Taxpayer Protection Pledge. It reads,
"I, Eric M. Weaver, Sr., pledge to the taxpayers of the35th House district of the State of North Carolina and to all the people of this state,
that I will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes."
Personal Liberty is Also Important
I have also signed the Republican Liberty Caucus's "Liberty Compact."
This reads, "I, Eric M. Weaver, Sr, pledge to the citizens of the State of North Carolina and to the American people, that as their elected representative I will work to:
- Restore liberty, not restrict it;
- Shrink government, not expand it;
- Reduce taxes, not raise them;
- Abolish programs, not create them;
- Promote the freedom and independence of citizens, not the interference of government in their lives;
- and Observe the limited, enumerated powers of our Constitution, not ignore them."
